Join the dean of Civil War Tour Guides Ed Bearss for this detailed study of the most climatic final day of the decisive battle of Gettysburg. We’ll take one day to examine the actions which took place on 3 July 1863 and another day to follow the path of Lee’s retreat to the Potomac River at Falling Waters.

The weekend will begin at 8 PM on Friday evening with lectures by Ted Alexander, an authority on Lee’s retreat and Dr. Mark Snell, director of the Civil War Center at Shepherd University. Ted will give a strategic overview of the complex operations conducted during the retreat while Mark will give a summary of the battle and of the campaign.

On Saturday and Sunday, Ed Bearss will lead the group from East Cavalry Field, Culp’s Hill and a walking tour of Pickett’s assault. On Sunday, with Ed Bearss we’ll follow the route taken by Lee’s veterans to the Potomac crossing sites at Falling Waters and Williamsport. We’ll also stop at the Cashtown Inn, examine the battlefield which featured the cavalry engagement at Fairfield, cover the street fighting in Hagerstown and cover the fighting at Smithsburg, Moneterey Gap and Funkstown. Finally, we’ll stop at the house where Confederate general Johnston Pettigrew was mortally wounded.

This is a great tour which features a lot of sites you wouldn’t be able to see on your own. Enroll today!
