Roads to Gettysburg

We’ll start the program Friday evening at 8PM with two lectures highlighting various aspects of the opening of the Gettysburg campaign. David Ward will discuss the “Confederate Road to Gettysburg,” while Jeff Wert will compare and contrast the famous Stonewall Brigade and the Iron Brigade.

On Saturday and Sunday you’ll join distinguished battle field guide Ed Bearss as he takes you on the “Roads to Gettysburg.” We’ll spend the first day covering the Battle of Brandy Station, scene of the Civil War’s largest cavalry engagement and we’ll also visit the cavalry battlefields at Aldie, Upperville and Middleburg. On the second day of the tour, we’ll visit Prospect Hall in Frederick, Maryland where Maj. Gen. George Meade took command of the Army of the Potomac.

We’ll also cover all of the sites associated with the first day of the famous battle of Gettysburg. Stops will include the Cashtown Inn, Herbst Woods, where the Iron Brigade was destroyed, the Railroad Cut, the Theological Seminary, where Buford viewed the opening phase of the battle, Coster Avenue and Barlow’s Knoll.

The enrollment fee for this program is $295. Lunch is included on Saturday and Sunday.
